Early rare antique English wax over composition doll ca. 1860-1870. Very interesting and expressive doll! This kind of dolls served as a prototype for the bisque head fashion dolls. This doll is 20.4 inches (52 cm) tall.
Her composition head and shoulder plate are covered with wax. Her head is slightly turned to the right. Deep brown glass eyes with fully operational eyes mechanism and original lid paint. Her mohair wig is glued to her head. Her facial painting is in good condition.
The doll has a nice leather body that is in very good condition. Lower arms end in leather hands with separately wired fingers.
The doll wears an original outfit. Very beautiful cream and pale blue silk dress, cotton underclothes. A silk hat. Original leather boots with tiny heels. The dress is fragile and shows some splitting.
