An extremely rare antique German bisque head doll made by the Franz Schmidt factory, ca. 1902, as evidenced by a publication in the renowned historical German periodical "Wegweiser für die Spielwaren Industrie".
The doll is equipped with a built-in mechanism which, when wound with a key, allows it to move completely on its own. This invention is protected by patent DRP No. 119857 (by Ferdinand Imhoff); the number is stamped on the metal soles with wheels.
The doll measures 41 cm in height. The bisque head is in perfect condition, without chips, cracks, or restoration. The back of the head is marked with the manufacturer’s mark "S & C 6½ Germany". Glass sleep eyes. Open mouth with four teeth. The doll wears earrings. Original mohair wig. Antique clothing: a cotton dress, cotton undergarments, a velvet hat with flowers. Antique brooch depicting the Holy Madonna. The mechanism is in working order, and the key is original.
