Antique German Bisque Head Doll Franz Schmidt & Co 1272

Rare antique German bisque head doll made by Franz Schmidt ca. 1912 -1915. Mold 1272. The doll stands ca. 12" (30cm) tall. Her bisque head is by Simon & Halbig. Her bisque head is free of damage or repair, no cracks, chips or restoration. The head is marked "FS & Co 1272/ 28Z Deponiert". Blue glass eyes with fully operational eye mechanism and original lid paint. Open mouth with 2 teeth and a movable tongue.
Open mouth with teeth. Wood and composition 5 piece body in good condition, with molded feet. Original mohair wig. A rare version of the wig — made of natural fur, the wig is glued glued to the head.
Original wood and composition toddler body, in good condition. The doll is dressed in an antique piglet costume, which in Germany is a symbol of financial well-being. The "Glücksschweinchen" — a little lucky pig — is believed to bring good luck. Similar dolls and postcards featuring pigs, ladybugs, and fly agaric mushrooms were often given as gifts for various celebrations, including New Year’s, birthdays, and weddings. The charming little piglet doll has an old brooch attached to her dress, depicting a ladybug and a fly agaric mushroom.
