Early rare antique fashion German wax over papier mache doll made ca. 1850-1870. The doll stands ca. 19.6" (50 cm) tall. Her head is unmarked. The doll has a papier mache or composition head and shoulder plate covered with wax. Wax is showing some craquelure and rubs. Her leather body with composition arms is in good condition according to the doll's age. No holes, no leakage of sawdust. Obviously the legs show some abrasion of the material.
Bright blue glass sleep eyes with fully operational eye mechanism and original lid paint. Although some of the facial wax has been worn off over the past century, she is still as lovely as can be. Wax is showing some craquelure. But she is in good condition for her age. Her original mohair wig is affixed to the head.
The doll wears antique clothing, an elegant wool dark blue two-piece costume consisting of a skirt with a bustle Cul-de-Paris and a jacket. She has a full set of cotton underwear. A straw hat decorated with flowers. Her original leather shoes with heels are affixed to her feet with tiny nails.
